Bishop on the Road
As a former physics/computer/math teacher, I like numbers. Some newspaper, magazine, or web articles introduce their topic with a “by the numbers” graphic. How about “the numbers” for my travels in the diocese these five years as your bishop?

Whew! Your Bishop’s new travelling extravaganza is starting this Fall: our Vibrant Ministries: Uniting our Church Appeal visits.
This issue of the SKC contains my schedule to visit every parish and to celebrate every weekend Mass as I encourage participation in our Vibrant Ministries Appeal these next 12 months (see Page 8). In October and November, I will begin with four “pilot” parishes; in December 2016 through March 2017 I will travel to 20 parishes in the “first wave”; and in April through July I will finish with 24 parishes in the “second wave.”
My goal is to promote our Appeal: our three goals of works of mercy, formation, and priestly vocations; our call, as members of our parish and of our diocese, to be generous as disciples of Jesus; and my plea that you and your family will prayerfully consider sacrificial almsgiving to the Appeal.
I am very grateful to our hard working committees in this diocesan effort: the leadership team, the executive committee, the honorary co-chairs, the priest committee (all with the assistance of our Development Director Mark Roth, and our Development Counsel from the Steier Group, E. Jane Rutter); our diocesan staff, and many others. What dedicated folks!
I am looking forward to seeing all of you during my travels these next 12 months. Jesus said to His Heavenly Father: “And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, and we are one” (John 17:22). Let us be united with our Loving God, and with each other. Thank you for your prayers, and be assured of my prayers.

Como antiguo profesor de física / informática / matemáticas, me gustan los números. Algunos periódicos, revistas o artículos de la Web introducen su tema con un gráfico “cifras”. ¿Qué dicen “los números” de mis viajes en la diócesis durante estos cinco años como su obispo?

¡Uf! El nuevo espectáculo itinerante de su obispo comienza este otoño: Las visitas de nuestra Petición Ministerios Vibrantes – Uniendo a nuestra Iglesia.
Este número del SKC contiene mi programa de visitas a todas las parroquias, y para celebrar la misa cada fin de semana mientras que animo a la participación en nuestra Petición Ministerios Vibrantes durante los próximos 12 meses. En octubre y noviembre, voy a empezar con cuatro parroquias “piloto”; en diciembre 2016 hasta marzo de 2017 voy a viajar a 20 parroquias de la “primera ola”, y de abril a julio voy a terminar con 24 parroquias en la “segunda ola”.
“Son mis 3 objectivas para la Petición Ministerios Vibrantes promover sus tres prioridades:….”: obras de misericordia, formación, y vocaciones sacerdotales; nuestro llamado, como miembros de nuestra parroquia y de nuestra diócesis, a ser generosos como discípulos de Jesús; y mi petición de que usted y su familia podrán considerar en la oración una limosna de sacrificio para la Petición.
Estoy muy agradecido a nuestros comités que trabajan duro en este esfuerzo diocesano: el equipo de liderazgo, el comité ejecutivo, los co-chairs honorarios, el comité presbiteral; todo ellos con la ayuda de nuestro director de desarrollo, Mark Roth, y nuestro asesor de desarrollo del Steier Group, E. Jane Rutter, nuestro personal diocesano, y muchos otros. ¡Qué gente tan dedicada!
Deseo verlos a todos ustedes durante mis viajes estos próximos 12 meses. Jesús le dijo a su Padre Celestial: “Yo les di la gloria que tú me diste para que sean uno como lo somos nosotros” (Juan 17,22). Unámonos con nuestro Dios de amor, y con los demás.
