From the Heart
Clara was probably in her eighties, and lived in a tiny house. She wore thick glasses and was nearly blind. When I visited
Clara to bring her the Eucharist and chat, she always greeted me warmly. I never saw her out of her favorite chair.
Occasionally I met her caregivers, who stopped in throughout the day to help.
As I was leaving, Clara always said: “Father John, just a moment … , I have something for the Church.” She would put a
five-dollar bill in her parish tithe envelope, and hand it to me. This faithfulness touched me. Clara, an elderly woman on
fixed income, lovingly gave to the Lord from her heart. She “put in more than all the other contributors,” giving “from her
poverty” (Mark 12:41-44).
Let us share our financial resources with the Lord. Let us tithe to our parish every weekend. Let us prayerfully discern where
to give our almsgiving: to Catholic Charities, to the Vibrant Ministries appeal, to the wildfire relief fund, to a Catholic school,
or others. Jesus, who gave His entire life for us, loves us so much!

Desde el corazón
Clara tenía probablemente más de ochenta años, y vivía en una casa pequeña. Llevaba gruesos anteojos y estaba casi
ciega. Cuando visitaba a Clara para traerle la Eucaristía y conversar, ella siempre me daba una cálida bienvenida. Nunca la vi
levantarse de su sillón favorito. De vez en cuando me encontré con sus cuidadores, que venían varias veces durante día para
ayudarla.
Cuando me iba, Clara siempre decía: “Padre John, un momento... Tengo algo para la Iglesia”. Ella ponía un billete de cinco
dólares en su sobre de diezmos de la parroquia, y me lo entregaba. Esta fidelidad me conmovía. Clara, una mujer de edad
avanzada con una renta fija, daba al Señor con amor desde su corazón. Ella “ha dado más que todos los otros”, dando “en su
indigencia” (Marcos 12, 41-44).
Compartamos nuestros recursos financieros con el Señor. Demos el diezmo a nuestra parroquia cada fin de semana.
Hagamos oración para discernir a quien dar nuestra limosna: a Caridades Católicas, a la Petición Ministerios Vibrantes, al
fondo de ayuda para incendios forestales, a una escuela católica, u a otros. Jesús, que dio toda su vida por nosotros, ¡nos
ama tanto!
