With great joy I, as your bishop, call one of our sons to be ordained for the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City. Carson Haupt will be ordained a transitional Deacon on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 10 a.m. Holy Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. You, your family, friends, and guests are most cordially invited to participate in this celebration of the immense love of Jesus Christ. Please come to see our future deacon receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders in this extraordinary blessing from our Merciful Father. God willing, Carson will then be called next year to priestly ordination. He may become your future parish priest!
I am most grateful for the many prayers and sacrifices you have made for Carson Haupt (from St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City) throughout his years of formation. Please organize a carpool: Let's fill the Cathedral with the faithful who celebrate the ordination of our future deacon!
I ask that a special invitation to participate go out from the parishes and families to their sons, grandsons, nephews, godsons and to all the boys, high school guys and single men in the diocese. Personal invites are best. Where do priests come from? From families. From dedicated, faith-filled, hard-working, loving, sacrificial families: families like your own, thanks be to God! At times, you may desire that your sons become husbands and dads. This is perfectly natural and beautiful. Yet, some of your sons are called by God to be deacons and priests, bringing us the Sacraments, Preaching the Good News, and Shepherding like Jesus Christ.
I encourage continued intentions for our boys, high school guys and single men, our current and future seminarians, to humbly listen to God's call to the diocesan priesthood, and to courageously follow that call; and for our families (“the seedbed of vocations” – Pope St. John Paul II) to be open to God's call of their sons to be diocesan priests. If your son is called by God to be a priest, that will bring him the most fulfillment, the most joy, the most peace. Dads and Moms: isn't that what you desire for your sons? "Jesus spoke to them, saying, 'Take courage; it is I. Do not be afraid'" (Matthew 14:27).
Now, each of our 48 parishes has a Parish Vocation Committee. Please assist this committee in your parish to foster vocations in your parish and around the diocese. Thank you for your ministry.
I encourage many prayers to the Lord for priestly vocations. One example (see below) is from the Mass "For Vocations to Holy Orders," from "Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Occasions #9." Mary, Mother of Seminarians, pray for us. Thank you for your grateful hearts, generosity, and sacrifice in the Lord. Jesus loves Carson, all our current and future seminarians, and each of us, more than we can ask or imagine!
For Vocations to Holy Orders
O God, who willed to provide shepherds for your people,
pour out in your Church a spirit of piety and fortitude,
to raise up worthy ministers for your altars
and make them ardent yet gentle heralds of your Gospel.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

Con gran alegría yo, como su obispo, llamo a uno de nuestros hijos a ser ordenado para la Diócesis Católica de Dodge City.
Carson Haupt será ordenado diácono de transición el sábado 1 de junio de 2024, a las 10 a. m., Santa Misa en la Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, Dodge City.
Usted, su familia, amigos e invitados están cordialmente invitados a participar en esta celebración del inmenso amor de Jesucristo. Pido que se haga una invitación especial a participar desde las parroquias y familias a sus hijos, nietos, sobrinos, ahijados y a todos los chicos, chicos de secundaria y solteros de la diócesis. Las invitaciones personales son las mejores. ¿De dónde vienen los sacerdotes? De familias. De familias dedicadas, llenas de fe, trabajadoras, amorosas y sacrificadas: familias como la suya, ¡gracias a Dios! En ocasiones, es posible que desees que tus hijos se conviertan en maridos y padres. Esto es perfectamente natural y hermoso. Sin embargo, algunos de sus hijos son llamados por Dios a ser diáconos y sacerdotes, trayendonos los sacramentos, predicando la buena nueva y pastoreando como Jesucristo.
Aliento las intenciones continuas para que nuestros muchachos, muchachos de secundaria y hombres solteros, nuestros seminaristas actuales y futuros, escuchen humildemente el llamado de Dios al sacerdocio diocesano y sigan ese llamado con valentía; y para que nuestras familias (“el semillero de vocaciones” – Papa San Juan Pablo II) estén abiertas al llamado de Dios de sus hijos a ser sacerdotes diocesanos. Si su hijo es llamado por Dios a ser sacerdote, eso le traerá la mayor satisfacción, la mayor alegría, la mayor paz. Papás y mamás: ¿no es eso lo que desean para sus hijos? En seguido Jesús les dijo: Animo no teman, que soy yo. (Mateo 14,27).
Ahora, cada una de nuestras 48 parroquias tiene un Comité Vocacional Parroquial. Por favor ayude a este comité en su parroquia a fomentar vocaciones en su parroquia y en toda la diócesis. Gracias por su ministerio.
Animo muchas oraciones al Señor por las vocaciones sacerdotales. Un ejemplo (ver recuadro) es de la Misa "Por vocaciones a las Sagradas Órdenes", de "Misas y oraciones para diversas necesidades y ocasiones #9". María, Madre de los Seminaristas, ruega por nosotros. Gracias por sus corazones agradecidos, generosidad y sacrificio en el Señor. ¡Jesús ama a Carson, a todos nuestros seminaristas actuales y futuros, y a cada uno de nosotros, más de lo que podemos pedir o imaginar!

Señor, tú que eres quien provee de pastores a la comunidad Cristiana,
haz que tu Espíritu suscite en ella sacerdotes dignos del altar y
los llene de piedad y fortaleza para anunciar tu Evangelio.
Por nuestro Señor Jesucristo, tu Hijo, que vive y reina contigo
en la unidad del Espíritu Santo,
