"There is nothing so great as the Eucharist. If God had something more precious, He would have given it to us.” This quote is from St. John Vianney, the patron saint of parish priests. Page 1 of this SKC issue focuses on the Ordained Priesthood and Diaconate of the Catholic Church. The great gift of the Sacrament of Holy Orders brings the Eucharist and the other sacraments to the faithful.
I hope you will participate in Carson Haupt’s diaconate ordination June 1 at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral. The Ordination Rite says that the deacon “will help the Bishop and his Priests in the ministries of the word, of the altar, and of charity, showing himself to be a servant of all.” Soon-to-be-deacon Carson will serve at the Cathedral for June and July before returning for his final year of formation at Kenrick Seminary.
Also, the Official Appointments and other ministry changes are listed. Typically, the “priest moves” are in the summer, but they can happen at any time of the year. We are sad to see our priest be moved: he has been part of our parish family, calling him “Father.” We graciously welcome the new priest as the newest member of our parish family, being patient with him, and he with us and himself. Prayer, patience and persistence in our Catholic Faith will bring us to holiness, and help build up the Church, as God asks. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” (Proverbs 3:5).
“My little children, your hearts, are small, but prayer stretches them and makes them capable of loving God. Through prayer we receive a foretaste of heaven and something of paradise comes down upon us. Prayer never leaves us without sweetness. It is honey that flows into the souls and makes all things sweet. When we pray properly, sorrows disappear like snow before the sun” (St. John Vianney).
Let us pray for Carson and our current and future seminarians. Let us pray for our current and future priests. Let us thank the Lord for the diaconate and priesthood. Jesus loves us so much!
La bendición de las Sagradas Órdenes
No hay nada tan grandioso como la Eucaristía. Si Dios tuviera algo más precioso, nos lo habría dado”. Esta cita es de San Juan Vianney, el santo patrón de los párrocos. La página 1 de esta edición de SKC se centra en el Sacerdocio Ordenado y el Diaconado de la Iglesia Católica. El gran don del Sacramento del Orden Sagrado acerca la Eucaristía y los demás sacramentos a los fieles.
Espero que participe en la ordenación diaconal de Carson Haupt el 1 de junio a las 10 a. m. en la Catedral. El Rito de Ordenación dice que el diácono “ayudará al Obispo y a sus Sacerdotes en los ministerios de la palabra, del altar y de la caridad, mostrándose servidor de todos”. Carson, que pronto será diácono, servirá en la Catedral durante junio y julio antes de regresar para su último año de formación en el Seminario Kenrick.
También se enumeran los nombramientos oficiales y otros cambios ministeriales. Normalmente las “mudanzas de sacerdotes” son en verano, pero pueden ocurrir en cualquier época del año. Nos entristece ver a nuestro sacerdote conmovido: ha sido parte de nuestra familia parroquial, llamándolo “Padre”. Damos la bienvenida gentilmente al nuevo sacerdote como el miembro más nuevo de nuestra familia parroquial, siendo pacientes con él, y él con nosotros y consigo mismo. La oración, la paciencia y la perseverancia en nuestra Fe Católica nos llevarán a la santidad y ayudarán a construir la Iglesia, como Dios pide. “Confía en el Señor con todo tu corazón” (Proverbios 3,5).
“Hijitos míos, vuestro corazón es pequeño, pero la oración los estira y los hace capaces de amar a Dios. A través de la oración recibimos un anticipo del cielo y algo del paraíso desciende sobre nosotros. La oración nunca nos deja sin dulzura. Es miel que fluye en las almas y endulza todas las cosas. Cuando oramos adecuadamente, los dolores desaparecen como la nieve ante el sol” (San Juan Vianney).
Oremos por Carson y nuestros seminaristas actuales y futuros. Oremos por nuestros sacerdotes actuales y futuros. Demos gracias al Señor por el diaconado y el sacerdocio. ¡Jesús nos ama tanto!
