No Baby Jesus? Our Christmas Gospels are Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 2:1-14, 15-20, and John 1:1-18. But St. John’s gospel doesn’t have anything about Bethlehem, a manger, shepherds, angels, or even Mary and Joseph! Why is this Scripture used on Christmas Day?
These verses of St. John teach us that Jesus Christ is eternal, the Word of God, became flesh, and He brought light into the world, “the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (1:5).
What darknesses do you have in your life? Illness, grief, anxiety, difficult family concerns, violence, temptation are all types of darknesses we have. May we ask the newborn Jesus to shine His Light into our lives. With the Lord more in our focus, deeper in our awareness, the darkness can be overpowered. Trust that Jesus’ light will brighten your path and show you the way to holiness.
Pope Francis in Christmas at the Nativity writes: “What is the meaning of this light that shown in the darkness? … [this is the grace of] divine love, the love that changes lives, renews history, liberates from evil, fills hearts with peace and joy. Tonight the love of God has been revealed to us: it is Jesus.” Let Baby Jesus enlighten your life, He loves you so much!

La Luz del Niño Dios
Qué es el Niño Jesús? Nuestros Evangelios de Navidad son Mateo 1,18-25, Lucas 2,1-14, 15-20 y Juan 1,1-18. ¡Pero el Evangelio de San Juan no tiene nada que ver con Belén, un pesebre, pastores, ángeles o incluso María y José! ¿Por qué se usa esta Escritura el día de Navidad?
Estos versículos de San Juan nos enseñan que Jesucristo es eterno, la Palabra de Dios, se hizo carne y trajo la luz al mundo, “la luz brilla en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no la vencieron” (1,5).
¿Qué oscuridades tienes en tu vida? La enfermedad, el dolor, la ansiedad, las preocupaciones familiares difíciles, la violencia, la tentación son todos tipos de oscuridades que tenemos. Pidamos al recién nacido Jesús que haga brillar Su Luz en nuestras vidas. Con el Señor más en nuestro enfoque, más profundamente en nuestra conciencia, la oscuridad puede ser dominada. Confía en que la luz de Jesús iluminará tu camino y te mostrará el camino a la santidad.
El Papa Francisco en la Navidad en el pesebre escribe: “¿Qué significa esta luz que brilla en la oscuridad? … [esta es la gracia del] amor divino, el amor que cambia las vidas, renueva la historia, libera del mal, llena los corazones de paz y alegría. Esta noche se nos ha revelado el amor de Dios: es Jesús”. Deja que el Niño Jesús ilumine tu vida, ¡Él te ama tanto!
