"Hope does not disappoint” (Romans 5:5). With this scripture, Pope Francis began his document announcing the Ordinary Jubilee Year 2025. He prays that we can be “Pilgrims of Hope” throughout the Year 2025.
At times, we feel hopeless, helpless and lonely. Our family struggles, political strife, violence, and other situations seem insurmountable. But we know there is great hope in Jesus Christ, our Savior, Brother and Friend. One definition of the theological virtue of hope is “to trust in God and His ways.” Humbly trusting our Lord can help us in the tough times, and bring us an inner joy. Reaching out to others in love and compassion can assist them with hope.
I designate Our Lady of Guadalupe Cathedral as pilgrimage site. I encourage your family, youth group, parish, etc., to make a prayerful pilgrimage to the Cathedral. The last two issues of the Southwest Kansas Catholic have had articles about the Jubilee Year, including how to obtain an indulgence for a pilgrimage to the Cathedral. God will “give you a future of hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). May we rededicate ourselves to the Lord in this Jubilee Year 2025 as Pilgrims of Hope. Jesus will help; He loves you more than you can ask or imagine!
Año Jubilar de la Esperanza
"La esperanza no defrauda” (Romanos 5,5). Con esta escritura, el Papa Francisco comenzó su documento que anuncia el Año Jubilar Ordinario 2025. Ora para que podamos ser “Peregrinos de la Esperanza” durante todo el Año 2025.
A veces, nos sentimos desesperados, indefensos y solos. Nuestras luchas familiares, conflictos políticos, violencia y otras situaciones parecen insuperables. Pero sabemos que hay una gran esperanza en Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador, Hermano y Amigo. Una definición de la virtud teologal de la esperanza es “confiar en Dios y en sus caminos”. Confiar humildemente en nuestro Señor puede ayudarnos en los tiempos difíciles y traernos una alegría interior. Extender la mano a los demás con amor y compasión puede ayudarlos con la esperanza.
