We have many controversial and contentious topics/situations/crises in our country and world today. Difficulties in determining fact from opinion. Opinions all over the continuum. Solutions all over the spectrum. I am tempted to be obsessed with a current controversy, and I end up lost. But I must find Jesus Christ, or rather, allow Him to find me.
How can I follow the Lord in this topic/situation/crisis, to bring me and others closer to God? Prayer.
The fourth theme of our Diocesan Pastoral Plan Outline is: To Pray with Devotion – Worship the Father, through Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Spirit as community and individually.
What exactly is prayer? How do you pray?
"For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy." - St. Thérèse of Lisieux as quoted in paragraph 2558 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
"Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God." (CCC 2559)
"...Humility is the foundation of prayer. Only when we humbly acknowledge that we do not know how to pray as we ought, are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer. Man is a beggar before God." (CCC 2559)
St. Paul exhorts us to: “Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks” (1st Thessalonians 5:17-18).
In prayer, I bring any controversy, fear, hurt, suffering, thanksgiving or temptation to Jesus our Savior. He speaks to my heart, and He will speak to your heart. He will give you wisdom to approach the challenge in a balanced, personal, relational and Christ-centered manner. God assists our faithful discernment so we know how to take action in faith, hope, and charity to all God’s children, all of us siblings in Christ.
Let us bring Christ to people, and people to Christ. Let us pray without ceasing. Let us love one another as God loves each of us (cf. John 15:12). Jesus our Lord loves us more than we can ask or imagine.

Orar con devoción
Tenemos muchos temas, situaciones y crisis controvertidas y polémicas en nuestro país y en el mundo hoy en día. Dificultades para distinguir los hechos de las opiniones. Opiniones en todos los ámbitos. Soluciones en todo el espectro. Me siento tentado a obsesionarme con una controversia actual y termino perdido. Pero debo encontrar a Jesucristo, o mejor dicho, dejar que Él me encuentre.
¿Cómo puedo seguir al Señor en este tema, situación o crisis, para acercarme a Dios y a los demás? La oración.
Nuestro cuarto tema del Plan Pastoral Diocesano: Orar con devoción: Adorar al Padre, por Jesucristo, y en el Espíritu Santo, tanto en comunidad como individualmente.
¿Qué es exactamente la oración? ¿Cómo oras?
Para mí, la oración es un impulso del corazón; es una simple mirada al cielo, un grito de reconocimiento y de amor, que abarca tanto la prueba como la alegría. —Santa Teresita de Lisieux, citada en el párrafo 2558 del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica.
«La oración es elevar la mente y el corazón a Dios o pedirle bienes.» (CIC 2559)
...La humildad es el fundamento de la oración. Solo cuando reconocemos con humildad que «no sabemos orar como conviene», estamos dispuestos a recibir gratuitamente el don de la oración. «El hombre es un mendigo ante Dios.» (CIC 2559)
San Pablo nos exhorta a: «Orad sin cesar. Dad gracias en toda circunstancia” (1 Tesalonicenses 5:17-18).
En oración, traigo cualquier controversia, temor, dolor, sufrimiento, agradecimiento o tentación a Jesús, nuestro Salvador. Él habla a mi corazón y hablará al tuyo. Te dará sabiduría para afrontar el desafío de una manera equilibrada, personal, relacional y centrada en Cristo. Dios nos ayuda a discernir con fidelidad para que sepamos actuar con fe, esperanza y caridad hacia todos los hijos de Dios, todos nosotros, hermanos en Cristo.
Llevemos a Cristo a la gente y la gente a Cristo. Oremos sin cesar. Amémonos unos a otros como Dios nos ama a cada uno de nosotros (cf. Juan 15:12). Jesús, nuestro Señor, nos ama más de lo que podemos pedir o imaginar.
