Birthdays and other anniversary celebrations are full of joy. We show our affection for a loved one with a birthday party: a special meal, gifts, and storytelling. Similarly, we rejoice for anniversaries: baptism, confirmation, matrimony, ordination, and religious profession.
We are soon to celebrate an extraordinary birthday – Christmas! We honor and thank Jesus for being born to Mary in Bethlehem some 2,000 years ago.
“For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord” (Lk 2:11).
The Christ Child is our Savior, Brother and Friend. Jesus taught us to love sacrificially, formed the Catholic Church, died on Calvary, rose from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of the Father in Heaven. Jesus did all this to free us from sin, to give us hope and joy, and to bring us to heaven. We celebrate His birthday with joy!
We will celebrate other important anniversaries in 2026. The Catholic Diocese of Dodge City will celebrate our 75th Jubilee! We were founded in 1951, with Bishop John Baptist Franz as our first bishop. Also, in 2026 our Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe is celebrating its 25th anniversary! Our “new” Cathedral was dedicated in 2001. The upcoming Jan. 11th issue of this newspaper will include details of events planned for our special anniversary year.
May we celebrate Jesus’ birthday with joy. May we show our love for family, friends and our Catholic faith by joyfully commemorating our anniversaries. Our Newborn King Jesus loves us more than we can ask or imagine!

¡Cumpleaños: Alegría!
Los cumpleaños y otras celebraciones de aniversario están llenas de alegría. Demostramos nuestro cariño a un ser querido con una fiesta de cumpleaños: una comida especial, regalos y narración de historias. De igual manera, nos regocijamos en los aniversarios: bautismo, confirmación, matrimonio, ordenación y profesión religiosa.
¡Pronto celebraremos un cumpleaños extraordinario: la Navidad! Honramos y agradecemos a Jesús por haber nacido de María en Belén hace unos 2000 años. «Porque hoy, en la ciudad de David, les ha nacido un Salvador, que es el Mesías y el Señor» (Lc 2,11). El Niño Jesús es nuestro Salvador, Hermano y Amigo. Jesús nos enseñó a amar con sacrificio, fundó la Iglesia Católica, murió en el Calvario, resucitó de entre los muertos y ascendió a la diestra del Padre Celestial. ¡Celebramos su cumpleaños con alegría!
Celebraremos otros aniversarios importantes en 2026. ¡La Diócesis Católica de Dodge City celebrará su 75.º Jubileo! Nos fundamos en 1951, con el obispo Juan Bautista Francisco como nuestro primer obispo. Además, en 2026, ¡nuestra Catedral de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe celebra su 25.º aniversario! Nuestra "nueva" Catedral se inauguró en 2001.
