What is our purpose? Why do we exist? Who do we serve? How do we achieve our vision? These questions relate to mission.
I continue my series regarding our new Pastoral Plan Outline 2026-2031 for our diocese (see below).
Our new Mission statement: “Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we will, through acts of kindness, prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, intentionally accompany all to make disciples of Jesus (cf. Matthew 6:1-8, 16-18; 28:19).”
The starting point is always God, who takes the first step in creating, loving and inspiring us. We respond with acts of kindness, prayer, fasting and almsgiving, which you recognize from the Ash Wednesday Gospel from Matthew we hear every year (note: Ash Wednesday is February 18).
One of Pope Francis’ legacies is his emphasis on accompanying – to walk with others, to not give up on them, to assist them unconditionally. This does not just happen, rather, we want to be intentional about our accompaniment, not just leave it to chance.
Finally, we wish to make disciples of Christ. This command is from Jesus Himself, in His “great commissioning” (cf. Matthew 28:19). Our mission is to make students and followers of Christ.
The next three articles will describe our Priorities: Call to Holiness, Family, and Relationships. May Jesus, who is in our midst, pour forth His grace on us, that we may follow Him.

PRIORITIES
Call to Holiness
Reflect the person of Jesus through prayer,
fruitful reception of the sacraments of the Church, and love for the poor.
“Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy” (Leviticus 19:2).
Family
Assist families to pursue Christ-centered lives and to faithfully serve as missionary disciples.
“As for me and my household, we will
serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
Relationships
Imitate Christ by building hopeful, loving, and forgiving personal relationships with others.
“Encourage one another and build up one another” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

¿Cuál es nuestro propósito? ¿Por qué existimos? ¿A quién servimos? ¿Cómo logramos nuestra visión? Estas preguntas se relacionan con nuestra misión.
Continúo mi serie sobre el nuevo Plan Pastoral 2026-2031 para nuestra diócesis (vea abajo).
Nuestra nueva declaración de misión: “Inspirados por el Espíritu Santo, a través de actos de bondad, oración, ayuno y limosna, acompañaremos intencionalmente a todos para hacer discípulos de Jesús (cf. Mateo 6,1-8, 16-18; 28,19)”.
El punto de partida es siempre Dios, quien da el primer paso al crearnos, amarnos e inspirarnos. Respondemos con actos de bondad, oración, ayuno y limosna, que reconocemos del Evangelio de Mateo del Miércoles de Ceniza que escuchamos cada año (nota: el Miércoles de Ceniza es el 18 de febrero).
Uno de los legados del Papa Francisco es su énfasis en el acompañamiento: caminar con los demás, no abandonarlos, ayudarlos incondicionalmente. Esto no sucede por casualidad; queremos ser intencionales en nuestro acompañamiento, no dejarlo al azar.
Finalmente, deseamos hacer discípulos de Cristo. Este mandato proviene del mismo Jesús, en su “gran comisión” (cf. Mateo 28,19). Nuestra misión es formar discípulos y seguidores de Cristo.
Los próximos tres artículos describirán nuestras prioridades: Llamada a la Santidad, Familia y Relaciones. Que Jesús, que está en medio de nosotros, derrame su gracia sobre nosotros para que podamos seguirlo.
