A Polish theologian had another take on the Parable of the Talents (Matthew 25:14-30). They were gifts from the Lord, to be sure, and they were to be used, to be sure.
But Father Tadeusz Dajczer came at it from another angle. A “talent” is not only something we receive, he said. It is also something we do not receive.
In the light of Faith, the good health you have is clearly a talent: we should be grateful for it, we should protect it, and we should use it. But bad health is also a talent, and in some unusual and complex ways. There are uses to sicknesses as well as there are uses to health. In both cases, Jesus will ask of us a single question: what did you do with what I gave you? You can waste health, you see, everybody knows that. And, even more, you can waste a lack of health, even if not everybody knows that.
Everything … the good and the bad … is a gift, is a talent, is meant to lead toward our sanctification. In this sense, everything is Grace. The Parable of the Talents is an evangelical call to Conversion. It never stops sounding, and resounding, in our hearts with each new thing he gives us.
Because they are a new way of seeing things, hard graces are often the most valuable talents of our lives.
Una manera nueva de ver las cosas
Un teólogo Polaco tenía una manera diferente de interpretar la Parábola de los Talentos (Mateo 25:14-30). De seguro eran regalos del Señor y de seguro también estaban para ser usados.
Pero el Padre Tadeusz Dajczer lo vio desde otro ángulo. Un “talento” no es solamente algo que recibimos, dijo él. También es algo que no recibimos.
En la luz de la Fe, la buena salud es claramente un talento: deberíamos de estar agradecidos por esto, deberíamos de protegerla, deberíamos de usarla. Pero en alguna forma rara y compleja, la enfermedad también es un talento. Hay usos para la enfermedad al igual que para la salud. En los dos casos, Jesús nos preguntara una simple pregunta: ¿qué hiciste con lo que te di? Se puede desperdiciar la buena salud, todos sabemos esto. Y, aun mas, se puede desperdiciar la enfermedad, aun si no todos sabemos esto.
Todo… lo bueno y lo malo… es un regalo, es un talento, tienen el propósito de guiarnos hacia la santidad. En este sentido, todo es Gracia. La Parábola de los Talentos es un llamado evangélico hacia la Conversión. Nunca deja de sonar y resonar en nuestros corazones con cada cosa nueva que él nos da.
Porque son una manera nueva de ver las cosas, gracias recibidas que son difíciles son a menudo los talentos más valiosos de nuestras vidas.
