Don Bedore was a priest before he became a priest.
So was I at the Ordination, so was each priest there, so was each deacon there. And, so were you: each religious Sister, each husband, each wife, each father, each mother, each son and each daughter, each aunt and each uncle. So were you priests, all of you who were there. Unless you know that, you will not appreciate the wonder of his Ordination, and, worse, you will not be of much help to him as he takes up his priestly duties.
We were made priests, each of us, when we were baptized. We were plunged into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Priest, and thus our sins were removed, and thus we received his sanctifying grace. We were made members of Christ the Priest, of his priestly people, of his body, the Church. Then it was that we became priests, the priesthood of the faithful, it is called. Then it was that we became fit to be what Jesus was, and to do what Jesus did: to priest with him, and thus offer worship to his Father.
We have done all this all the years since when we have tried to walk in his footsteps: when we have tried to be like him physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually. We have done this in a special, and an intense, way each time we participated in the holy Mass. We brought our gifts to the altar (parts of ourselves, after all), united them with the bread and wine the priest offers in our name, and saw all of this become one with the sacrifice of Christ. I live, not I, but Christ lives in me, as St. Paul experienced it. (Gal 2: 19-20)
We tried, as St. Paul told the Romans, to offer (our) bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God, (our) spiritual worship. Do not conform yourselves to this age but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may judge what is God’s will, what is good, pleasing, and perfect. (Romans 12: 1-2)
Unless we try to do that each day in the future, we will not be of much help to Father Bedore. He was configured to Jesus Christ in a special way on his Ordination day, to Christ the Head of the Church. This made him a priest in a different way. His priesting is meant to serve and support our priesting. His teaching, sanctifying, and leading is meant to help us become one with Christ the Priest, and thus share in his redemption of the world.
To do what the Lord has now called him to do, he needs us to do what the Lord once called us to do: to offer our bodies each day as a spiritual sacrifice to the Lord. In God’s mysterious Providence we are in this together. Doing our part is the best way we can thank God for the gift of Father Don Bedore, now bent on doing his part.

Nosotros fuimos convertidos en sacerdotes, cada uno de nosotros, cuando nos bautizaron. Fuimos sumergidos en la muerte y resurrección de Cristo Jesús, y así, limpios de pecado, recibimos su gracia santificadora. Fuimos convertidos en miembros de Cristo el Sacerdote, de su gente sacerdotal, de su cuerpo, la Iglesia. Y así fue, que fuimos convertidos en sacerdotes, el sacerdocio de los fieles, como es llamado. Y así fue,que fuimos dignos de convertirnos en lo que era Jesús, y hacer lo que hizo Jesús: ser sacerdotes con él, y ofrecerlo a su Padre.
Hemos hecho esto todos los años desde que tratamos de seguir sus pasos: hemos tratado de ser como el físicamente, mentalmente, socialmente, y espiritualmente. Hacemos esto en una manera especial e intensa cada vez que participamos en la santa Misa. Llevamos nuestras ofrendas al altar (que después de todo, son parte de nosotros mismos) y las unimoscon el pan y vino que ofrece el sacerdote en nuestro nombre. Y vemos todo esto convertirse en uno, con el sacrificio de Cristo. Ya no soy yo quien vive, sino que es Cristo quien vive en mí, así lo experimento San Pablo.(Gal 2: 19-20)
Tratar, como San Pablo les dijo a los Romanos, que se presenten ustedes mismos como ofrenda viva, consagrada y agradable a Dios. Este es el verdadero culto que deben ofrecer. No vivan ya según los criterios del tiempo presente; al contrario, cambien su manera de pensar para que así cambie su manera de vivir y lleguen a conocer la voluntad de Dios, es decir, lo que es bueno, lo que es grato, lo que es perfecto. (Romanos 12: 19-20)
A menos que hagamos esto en el futuro, cada día, no vamos a ser de mucha ayuda para el Padre Bedore. Fue configurado a Cristo Jesús en una manera especial el día de su Ordenación, a Cristo la Cabeza de la Iglesia. Esto lo convirtió en sacerdote de una manera diferente. Su sacerdocio está hecho para servir y apoyar a nuestro propio sacerdocio. Su enseñanza, santificación, y liderazgo esta para ayudarnos a convertirnos en uno con Cristo el Sacerdote, y así compartir en su redención del mundo.
Para hacer lo que el Señor lo ha llamado a hacer, el necesita que nosotros hagamos lo que un día el Señor nos llamó a hacer: ofrecer nuestros cuerpos cada día como un sacrificio espiritual para el Señor. En la misteriosa Providencia de Dios, estamos en esto juntos. Haciendo nuestra parte es la mejor manera de agradecerle a Dios por el regalo del Padre Don Bedore, quien ahora está comprometido a hacer su parte.
