A perfect companion in our life-long formation
In this issue we remember St. Mary of the Plains College, a source of so much good for Southwest Kansas over so many years, one that draws such fierce loyalty from those who studied there. It is impossible to think of it without remembering the whole complex fact of human formation.
Part of that fact is the role of Mary in all human formation. Those who are involved with Spiritual Direction, those who are involved with Deliverance Prayer, those who are involved with the Ministry of Exorcism, those who are involved with Courage, a support structure for the homosexually-inclined: all who are involved in these deep questions of authentic human formation insist on the active role of Mary. They are of one mind in saying that she is always a part of any serious Catholic spiritual growth.
And it stands to reason. She lived through that formation in her own life, as she learned to walk in the Hebrew Spiritual Tradition. She lived through it in the grace of the Divine at the Annunciation. Her Fiat there, was her Fiat everywhere, and always. Her deepest attitude was that of the First Disciple, ever attentive to the Word of God, ever desirous of its guidance in her life. Because that was her spiritual life, it became the ground and the pattern of our own spiritual life. Joseph, Jesus, the Apostles: she was about formation then. She is about formation now: in colleges sometimes, and in our domestic churches at all times.
Giving birth, forming, guiding, walking with, suffering with, growing with: she was always about the slow unfolding of complex Life. She was the perfect patron for our late, lamented, College, and for the Sisters who sacrificed so much for it. She is the perfect companion in our own life-long formation.

En esta edición, recordamos el Colegio de Santa Maria de las Llanuras, una fuente de muchas cosas buenas para el suroeste de Kansas a través de tantos años, uno que causa una tremenda lealtad en quienes estudiaron allí. Es imposible pensar en el sin recordar la complicada realidadde toda la formación humana.
Parte de esa realidad es el papel de Maria en toda la formación humana. Los que están involucrados con la dirección espiritual, los que están involucrados con la Oración de Liberación, los que están involucrados con el Ministerio del Exorcismo, quienes están involucrados con Courage (valor), una estructura de apoyo para los/as de inclinación homosexual: Todos los que participan en estas preguntas profundas de autentica formación humana insisten en el papel activo de Maria. Comparten el mismo pensamiento al decir que ella siempre es parte de cualquierdesarrollo espiritual Católico serio.
Y es absolutamente lógico. Sobrevivió esa formación en su propia vida, como aprendió a caminar en la Tradición Espiritual hebrea. La Sobrevivió en la gracia de lo Divino en la Anunciación. Su Fiat allí, fue su Fiat en todas partes, y siempre. Su actitud mas profunda fue esa del Primer Discípulo, siempre atenta a la palabra de Dios, siempre deseosa de su guía. Porque esa fue su vida espiritual, se convirtió en la fundación y modelo para nuestra propia vida espiritual. José, Jesús, los Apóstoles: Ella era formación entonces. Ella es formación ahora: en colegios, a veces, y siempre en nuestras iglesias domesticas.
Dar a luz, formar, guiar, caminar con, sufrir con, crecer con: siempre fue acerca del desarrollo lento de la Vida complicada. Fue la patrona perfecta para nuestro yapasado y lamentado Colegio, y para las Hermanas que sacrificaron tanto por el. Es la compañera perfecta ennuestra propia formación que dura toda la vida.
