‘Harden not your hearts’
If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. (Psalm 95:8) Most of the time, we float over the sacred poet’s words. Dive down into them now.
God’s love for us has no beginning, and it will have no ending. It is an always, an overwhelming, love for us. Look closer still. It means he has this love just for you, personally. Before there was a world, you were in his mind. He could not imagine a world without you. He would not have a world without you. He created the world as a gift just for you.
And now that you are in this world, he will not leave you alone. He hungers and he thirsts for you. He wants a deep personal relationship with you. Through his infinitely delicate power, he can, and he does enter into, and influence, your mind and heart, when he wants and where he wants. He does this without trampling on your freedom, however. He gives himself to you daily, to the degree that you permit.
And where does he do this? The answer is within you. Look inside. Look at the flux of thoughts that fill your mind daily (thoughts about God, self, work, world, family, lines of reasoning, lines of associations, or imagining). Look at the flux of affective acts that fill your mind daily (love, anger, hate, desire, fear). Look at the flux of affective feelings that fill your mind daily (peace, restlessness, warmth, coldness, sweetness, bitterness, uplift, heaviness, depression).
He is there, he is in all that. Go where he is to be found. In that “booming, buzzing, confusing” consciousness, the Lord comes to you each day. He speaks to you each day. He calls you each day. He guides you each day. These stirrings of mind and heart will either build up the Christ-Life within you, or they will tear it down.
If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Be alert, the psalmist says, to that flux in your mind and heart. Do not harden your hearts. Do not live on automatic pilot. That flux: it is the theater where the drama of your life and salvation plays out.

No endurezcan sus corazones. (Salmo 95:8). La mayoría del tiempo, pasamos sin pensar sobre esas palabras sagradas del poeta. Sumérgete en ellas.
El amor de Dios por nosotros no tiene principio, y no tendrá un final. Es un siempre, un amor arrollador. Mira aún más cerca todavía. Quiere decir que tiene este amor nada más para ti, personalmente. Antes de que hubiera un mundo, estabas en su mente. No podía imaginar un mundo sin ti. No tendría un mundo sin ti. Creó el mundo como regalo justo para ti.
Y ahora que estas en este mundo, no te dejara solo o sola. Él tiene hambre y sed de ti. Él quiere una relación profunda y personal contigo. Por medio de su infinito y delicado poder, él puede, y si entra dentro de tu mente y tu corazón, e influye a tu mente y corazón, cuando él quiere y donde él quiere. El hace esto sin pisotear tu libertad. Él se da a ti cada día, al grado que tú lo permitas.
¿Y dónde hace esto él? La respuesta es dentro de ti. Mira hacia dentro. Mira a todos los pensamientos que llenan tu mente cada día (pensamientos de Dios, de ti mismo, del trabajo, del mundo, de la familia, líneas de razonamiento, líneas de asociación, o de imaginar.) Mira a todos los actos afectivos que llenan tu mente (amor, coraje, deseo, miedo). Mira a todos los sentimientos que llenan tu mente (paz, inquietud, calor, frio, dulzura, amargura, ánimo, pesadez, depresión).
Él está ahí, él está en todo eso. Ve hacia donde puedas encontrarlo. En ese “trueno, zumbido, y confusión” que es la conciencia, el Señor viene hacia ti cada día. Te habla cada día. Te llama cada día. Te guía cada día. Este remover de mente y corazón pueden levantar la Vida en Cristo dentro de ti, o la pueden derrumbar.
No endurezcan sus corazones. Estén alertas, dijo el salmista, a ese cambio de tu mente y corazón. No endurezcan sus corazones. No vivan en piloto automático. Ese cambio constante: es el teatro donde el drama de tu vida y salvación se presentan.
