Show-and-tell
Our children have always had it right. They know they have to “show” first, and then they can “tell.” It is amazing how often we adults forget this.
Jesus never forgot it. He announced the Kingdom, and he made the Kingdom. He said the Kingdom, and he showed the Kingdom. He came to restore a fallen world, to remake a fallen humanity, he came to heal wounded women and men. He said what he had to say by showing what he had to say. He mastered the art of show-and-tell, apparently, in some long-ago room of a Nazareth Kindergarten. From then on, he was all about Show-Say.
And those who follow him? Why would it be any different for them? We must be about doing what he did. We must be about saying what he said. The old Masters called it the Imitation of Christ. We must be living the love of the Father that he preached. We must be living the love of the neighbor, too. In our own little homes, we must be doing these things, in our own little works, in our own little lives. Doing is the best way of saying.
Action is the only way. Concrete, selfless, other-centered, action is always the test of what we believe. The Ten Commandments of the Old Testament are called for. The two Great Commandments of the New Testament are called for. The practical Works of Mercy are called for. Not just thoughts about them, not just words about them, … actions … are called for.
Our faith is all about show-and-tell, friends. That’s the way Jesus worked. Shelter in him, if you would Show-Say like him.
Mostrarlo y hablar
Nuestros hijos siempre lo han tenido bien. Saben que deben “mostrarlo” primero, y después pueden “hablar” sobre ello. Es sorprendente con tanta frecuencia nosotros como adultos nos olvidamos de esto.
Jesús nunca lo olvido. El anuncio el Reino, y también creo el Reino. Él dijo Reino, y mostro el Reino. El vino a restaurar un mundo caído, a hacer de nuevo una humanidad caída, vino a sanar a hombres y mujeres heridos. Él dijo lo que tenía que decir mostrando lo que tenía que decir. Aparentemente, el dominaba el arte de mostrar y hablar, en un salón de Kínder en Nazaret hace mucho tiempo. Desde entonces, para el todo se trataba de Mostrar y Decir.
¿Y aquellos que lo siguen? ¿Porque debería de ser diferente para ellos? Debemos de hacer lo que él dijo. Debemos de hablar lo que él dijo. Los antiguos Maestros lo llamaban la Imitación de Cristo. Debemos de estar viviendo el amor del Padre que el predico. Debemos de estar viviendo el amor al prójimo, también. En nuestros pequeños hogares, debemos de estar haciendo estas cosas, en nuestras pequeñas obras, en nuestras pequeñas vidas. Haciendo es la mejor manera de decirlo.
Acción es la única manera. Concreta, desinteresada, centrada en los demás, acción es siempre la prueba de lo que creemos. Los Diez Mandamientos del Antiguo Testamento son requeridos. Los dos Grandes Mandamientos del Nuevo Testamento son requeridos. Las Obras de Misericordia son requeridas. No solo pensamientos sobre esto, no solo palabras, … acciones… son requeridas.
Amigos y amigas, nuestra fe se trata de mostrar-y-hablar. Esa es la manera en que Jesús trabajaba. Refúgiense en el, si deben de Mostrar y Decir como él.
