‘Here I am, lord...’
Here I am, Lord, I come to do your will.
That was how Mark Brantley and Jacob Schneider came to be ordained priests of Jesus Christ for the Diocese of Dodge City on 3 June 2017.
I need not tell you how important it is to pray for them. Without that, they will not be able to come, and to go, and to do His will. When you pray, ask the Lord to enlarge their hearts. He did that once for St. Philip Neri.
Attracted to the Catacomb of Saint Sebastian in Rome, Philip spent hours there in the darkness and the silence. Asking the Spirit for his gifts one day near Pentecost in 1544, there appeared to him a globe of fire, which entered his mouth, and lodged in his breast. Overcome by the heat of the experience, he fell to the ground, and he felt by the side of his heart a swelling as big as a man’s fist. Once surprised and felled, by this fire of love, it never left him all the rest of his years.
In this life, we know God more by loving Him (an act of will), than by seeing Him (an act of intellect). This is what played out with St. Philip: he was enlarged by a sudden impulse of divine love, and he responded to it. This is what made him the Amabile Santo he became, the Third Apostle of Rome, the Lovable Saint.
May the Lord do the same for our new priests. There is too much noise in our Church today, too much arguing, too much clinging to stubborn opinion, too much division. Heart is what we now need, not Head. Large hearts, not more hard heads.
Through the intercession of St. Philip, may the Lord give them that mystic enlargement of heart. It will be good for them, and for all our Church.
‘Aquí estoy, Señor...’
Aquí estoy Señor, para hacer tu voluntad.
Así fue como Mark Brantley y Jacob Schneider vinieron a ser ordenados sacerdotes de Jesucristo para la Diócesis de Dodge City el 3 de junio del 2017.
No necesito decirles lo importante que es orar por ellos. Sin la oración, no podrán venir, y después ir, y hacer su voluntad. Cuando hagan oración, pídanle al Señor que inflame sus corazones. El hizo eso por San Felipe Neri.
Atraído por las Catacumbas de San Sebastián en Roma, Felipe paso horas ahí en la obscuridad y en el silencio. Un día ya cerca de Pentecostés en 1544, pidiéndole al Espíritu sus dones, ahí se le apareció una esfera de fuego, que entro a su boca, y se refugió en su pecho. Conmovido por el fuego de la experiencia, se arrodillo y sintió al lado de su corazón una hinchazón del tamaño del puño de un hombre. Al principio sorprendido, y postrado, por este fuego de amor, nunca lo dejo por el resto de sus años.
En esta vida conocemos a Dios más amándolo (un acto de voluntad), que mirándolo (un acto de intelecto). Esto es lo que paso con San Felipe: se inflamo por un impulso de amor divino, y el respondió. Esto es lo que lo convertido en el Amabile Santo, Tercer Apóstol de Roma, el Santo Adorable.
Que el Señor haga lo mismo por nuestros nuevos sacerdotes. Hay mucho ruido, en nuestra Iglesia el día de hoy, mucha discusión, mucho aferrarse a opiniones tercas, mucha división. Corazón es lo que necesitamos ahora, no Cabeza. Corazones inflamados, no cabezas duras.
Por medio de la intercesión de San Felipe, que el Señor les de esa inflamación de corazón mística. Sera bueno para ellos, y para toda nuestra Iglesia.
