Where the Resurrection begins
Where should you go to celebrate Easter? You should go where the Lord is to be found. You should go where you are to be found.
The Lord is to be found in his holy words, and in his sacred signs. This is the ordinary way he comes to us. So, in a last gasp of Lenten self-denial, give yourselves up to this Holy Week, with all its words and all its signs. They are filled with the mystery of God.
And you, where are you to be found? Inside, of course. Inside your own heads and your own hearts. There is movement there, constant motion. There is an unending flow of persons, places, issues, and events that are to be found there each day. Some call this the stream of consciousness. It is your stream, to be sure. You allow this or that, or the other thing, into it. But it is also beyond you. It works without you.
So, gather up all the thoughts, the feelings, the desires, the urges, the dreams, the wounds, the fears, the resentments, the angers, and the joys too … gather them all up, these things, and many more besides. They change constantly. They move rapidly. The stream of your consciousness is a buzzing, booming, confusion, as William James once described it. But that is exactly where you are. That is the starting point for each of your days.
And that is exactly where the Resurrection begins. It floats in your stream. It swims in your river. It rushes in your waters. It floods and changes your very course. The Resurrection is a deep current flowing through you, the deepest part of where and who you are. So take where you are to be found to where the Lord is to be found in these Holy Days. Let them enlighten you to the healing that is happening deep inside you. Wake up to a blessed, and life-changing, Easter Sunday.
‘Donde comienza la Resurrección’
¿A dónde debería ir para celebrar la Pascua? Debería ir a donde se encuentre el Señor. Debería ir a donde lo encuentren a usted.
